More than six years after the launch of its Switch, Nintendo is actively working on a new iteration of the console expected in 2024. Today we learn a little more about this still highly secretive machine.
Still very secretive, enough to make us cautious, the Nintendo Switch 2 continues to gather a number of rumors over the months. And while the idea of a launch sometime in 2024 seems to be slowly taking shape, this week the console is making news with information that supports previous ones.
At the beginning of the week, a few details reached us following the alleged availability of a Switch 2 development kit to certain studios. In particular, we learned that the console would benefit from greater internal storage space, but also that it would remain limited to an LCD screen. These two pieces of information are now backed up by YouTube leaker Nate Hate. As WCCFTech reminds us, several of his predictions had already been proven right concerning certain video games.
A slightly larger Switch, with storage capacity worthy of the name?
We learn from Nate Hate that the console would indeed be launched in 2024, at the end of the year according to him, and potentially accompanied by a new Super Mario 3D. In terms of hardware, the leaker explains that the console would indeed be limited to an LCD screen (as previous rumors had suggested), but that this would be upgraded to an 8-inch format. As a reminder, the Nintendo Switch OLED currently boasts a 7-inch diagonal, compared with just 6.2 inches for the "standard" version of the console.Still according to Nate Hate, the Switch 2 (which could very well be called something else) would also feature a more generous amount of internal flash memory. In fact, he mentions a capacity of 512 GB on the best-equipped configurations... instead of the current 64 GB.
While this information should be taken with a pinch of salt at this stage, it's clear that we'll be hearing a lot more about the Switch 2 over the coming months. Presumably, then, we'll have more details to share with you later on.
