The X era begins: goodbye to Twitter on the App Store and Play Store

X, the new Twitter, or how to become anonymous in just one update. Elon Musk's gamble is no joke: the Twitter application has just vanished overnight.

Just back from vacation and find your favorite social network has had a serious face-lift? That's right, Twitter is no more. Welcome to X.com. And the iconic blue bird that has long been the symbol of the microblogging network has also taken its leave. It all happened in a flash.

The man behind this unexpected change is none other than Elon Musk, the renowned entrepreneur who first explored the concept of X.com in 1999. This site later became PayPal following a merger.

After a weekend of soliciting feedback from his community on Twitter, Elon Musk made the leap to X.com, with the transition taking the form of an impromptu ball. Surprisingly, even the logo was improvised. The new X.com logo is not the result of the hard work of a team of designers, but of a typeface.

The day after Elon Musk's announcement, anyone trying to access X.com was automatically redirected to Twitter.com. Shortly afterwards, the Twitter logo was replaced, marking the beginning of a new era for the application. And that was only the beginning of the transformation.

Twitter disappears from the app stores

The next step involved replacing the Twitter application itself. Starting on Friday July 28, updates began rolling out to the App Store and Play Store, transforming the Twitter app into X.

For those who are not yet ready to embrace this change, they can opt to block the proposed update. However, this is only a temporary solution. In time, users will either have to adopt the new format, or turn to other platforms.
