Several months after its arrival on iOS, ChatGPT will be available next week as an Android app.
It's official: the ChatGPT app is now available on Android! Previously announced for the coming week, the company has beaten expectations by making the app available this morning, July 23.This release follows OpenAI's promise to make its text-generative AI widely available, and marks a major milestone for Android users who have been eagerly awaiting this news. Users can now download the app from the Play Store and start enjoying conversations with ChatGPT on their Android smartphones and tablets.
Good things come to those who wait. While ChatGPT was first launched as a website before being officially ported to iPhone with a dedicated app, and then to Apple Watch, OpenAI's text-generating AI will finally be arriving on Android very soon.
On Twitter, the company announced on Friday evening that ChatGPT would be arriving on Android "next week", with no further details yet. It is already possible to pre-register on the Play Store to take advantage of the application as soon as possible on your smartphone or tablet, and to be notified of the launch.
The visuals highlighted by OpenAI on the ChatGPT page on the Play Store also reveal the interface that will be offered on smartphones. Logically, it's pretty much the same as what you'll find on the iPhone. The application should feature a light and a dark theme. It should enable you to retrieve previous ChatGPT discussions, as well as a settings menu.
Notably, as was already the case on iPhone, the Android version of ChatGPT should be ad-free. However, it is possible to subscribe to ChatGPT Plus to benefit from priority access and the GPT-4 model for more relevant responses.
