Too small for some users, the 24-inch iMac introduced in 2021 could in future be offered alongside a 32-inch model... but the latter is still a long way off.
After the arrival of a 15-inch MacBook Air XXL - a great first for this range, and a product that we appreciated - could Apple offer us an enlarged version of its iMac? If Mark Gurman's information is to be believed, Apple is currently considering the idea, and is indeed "experimenting" with a 32-inch model. In his PowerOn newsletter, however, the Bloomberg journalist explains that this (large) version of the iMac would not materialize any time soon. As it stands, we can't count on this new model before the end of 2024, and that's the best-case scenario, he predicts.
With its 32-inch screen, this new iMac would be ideal for advanced users and certain creative types who need a larger display surface than the 24 inches offered by the current iMac - even if this format remains a good compromise between the 21.5-inch and 27-inch iMacs previously offered in Apple's catalog.
A sort of replacement for the iMac Pro?
In this case, the medium-term arrival of a 32-inch iMac would enable Apple to replace, at least in some way, the 27-inch iMac Pro that disappeared a few years ago. Since then, no alternative has been offered in the Mac AIO field, forcing creative users to turn to the Mac Studio and Studio Display combo. An expensive solution, a little bulkier than a simple iMac, and not necessarily suited to all advanced users.
In any case, Mark Gurman is also readjusting his forecasts for the launch of a 24-inch iMac with an Apple M3 processor. Still equipped with a now "aging" M1 chip, the current version of the device was, according to the Bloomberg journalist, due to be updated in the second half of 2023. A prediction made in March, which the journalist shifts slightly to July. According to him, Apple has finally postponed this hardware upgrade until early 2024.
